How HuskyTech helps UConn students

HuskyTech provides all UConn students with free tech support. We will work on any computer, regardless of where and when it was purchased and whether there is any outstanding warranty. We will make our best effort to help you get online with a game console, iPhone, or other network device from anywhere on the UConn campus. We provide support via phone, email, or live chat, and we work hands-on at our shop in McMahon residence hall. We cannot repair broken computer hardware but we can diagnose any hardware defects and direct you toward licensed repair outlets.

Phone Support

You will be greeted by a prerecorded message upon dialing into our call center. If you wish to speak to a technician, press “0” and you will be entered into our queue; wait time is rarely more than five minutes except during move-in weekend. If we are especially busy, you will have the option of leaving a voicemail instead. Except under very rare circumstances, we return all calls within a single business day. Give us a call if you...

  • Cannot connect to the wired or wireless internet
  • Are having network registration (NetReg) problems
  • Believe your data jack is broken or malfunctioning

Quick Support

Quick Supports are often scheduled if a technician believes a client will benefit from a technician’s direct assistance. We schedule a 30-minute block where you will sit down with a technician to speak face-to-face regarding your technical issue. We welcome walk-ins but prefer that you call beforehand for organization’s sake. If you have a desktop, please only bring the tower; if you have a laptop, please bring your power cord. Schedule a quick support if...

  • You need help setting up a router or connecting to UCONN-SECURE
  • Your computer needs antivirus software
  • You need a verification to remove a Network Access Block

Shop Visits

When bringing a notebook computer to our shop, please remember to bring the power cord. If dropping off a desktop computer, bring only the tower. We work on computers in the order that they are given to us, and most will leave our shop within a week. You will be emailed periodic status updates as your computer moves through our various levels of support, and we will contact you by phone when it is ready to be picked up. Stop by our shop if...

  • Your computer is slow, not starting up, or has viruses/malware
  • Want help with data recovery or file backup
  • Would like a technician to diagnose any hardware malfunctions

Here is an overview of the five steps we follow during shop support:

  • Step 1 - Techs perform basic scans and fix various configurations.
  • Step 2 - Techs install and use various programs to keep your computer updated and virus free.
  • Step 3 - Higher level techs ensure scans were successful as well as use advanced tools to further clean the computer.
  • Step 4 - Higher level techs fix major issues and complete a final clean up.
  • Step 5 - Higher level techs check for quality assurance and perform a final run through to make sure things are working normally and all issues are resolved. At this point you should be contacted shortly for the pickup of your computer.
